In celebration of the 75th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 25th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Macao Special Administrative Region, SJM is proud to host the Fortune Realms exhibition in collaboration with whatelephant and the Association for the Development of Chinese Culture and Creativity. Designed to promote and enhance the public’s appreciation of tradition Chinese culture, Fortune Realms highlights the innovative fusion of classic and contemporary art through paper sculptures. By interweaving elements of ethnic cultures, intangible cultural heritage, traditional festivals, Chinese architecture and Macau’s UNESCO World Heritage landmarks, the exhibition invites viewers on an immersive journey through tradition and shared memories.

Engage with 11 original works by Michael Yip that explore art’s deep integration in and preservation of Chinese culture, such as festivals (Red Lanterns Hanging High and Dragon Boat Festival), architecture (Courtyards and Suzhou Gardens), and folk themes (Peony Flowers and The Elegant Fairy). This collection also features works about the connection between art and intellectual property – whatelephant, symbolising Macau’s spirit, and 如花, an original IP from Hong Kong – as well as China’s intangible cultural heritage, the Peking Opera’s Guan Yu and Sun Wukong.
